Good effort to catalogue biodiversity in the rain forest before its all gone due to climate change. But there is more imminent threat to the biodiversity that the ever-changing climate poses - illegal poaching of flora and fauna. In Malaysia, our Malayan tigers are in the brink of extinction and some wild cats in Cambodia had totally been wiped out in just a few years all due to illegal poaching activities. Forest rangers are usually ill equipped to fight poaching and can only cover cover limited expanse of the forest. XPRIZE should also in the future promote competition that develops technology for the preservation of biodiversity and to stamp wild life poaching. Smart system to detect unwarranted human activities, traps and snare that hurts and kills endangered animals - and possibly disarm the trap or snare once detected.
