Dr. Daphne Carlson is currently the Head of the Division of International Conservation at USFWS, International Affairs. The Division collaborates with a range of partners around the world to address threats to wild animals and plants and their habitats while promoting individual, institutional, and governmental capacity, evidence-based conservation, and science diplomacy . Daphne oversees long-term and trusted grant making programs and efforts to convene and connect partners to advance USFWS conservation mission. She provides technical expertise and policy guidance for international wildlife conservation, the use of data to demonstrate impact and to improve effectiveness of interventions. Previously, she served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Daphne has worked at the intersection of human, animal and environmental health, including on issues related to conservation, global health, One Health, food security, and development. Daphne practiced veterinary medicine in Houston and San Francisco before pursuing additional training in public health (MPVM) and epidemiology (PhD).
